Cleaning and Maintenance

CLEANING OF GARMENTS
How can I clean my Dainese leather goods?
It's essential not to let dirt build up on leather garments over time. Never use products containing solvents to clean them. Use the Dainese "Protection & Cleaning Kit," available at all Dainese stores. This kit contains two products: the first thoroughly cleans the leather, while the second nourishes it to keep it soft and supple. If you don't have a kit, you can always use a sponge or clean cloth with cold water and a little neutral soap as a detergent. After cleaning the item, let it dry completely away from any heat source (e.g., sunlight, radiators, etc.) and, if possible, on a flat surface or on a suitable hanger. The lining should be washed separately in water at a maximum of 40°C; Dainese recommends using neutral soap and not powder detergent, which could be abrasive.
Do you have any tips for cleaning Dainese leather garments?
1) Do not rub the garment with a brush or abrasive materials or creams.
2) To remove mosquitoes and dust, simply clean the area with a soft sponge soaked in mild soap and water. It's best to promptly remove any organic stains left by insects (e.g., mosquitoes, midges, etc.), as the fluids they contain are quite aggressive on the skin.
3) Any oil or grease should be cleaned immediately with a soft, damp cloth, wiping in gentle, circular motions, avoiding excessive rubbing of the soiled area.
4) Dry the garment away from heat sources and in a well-ventilated area; it's best to use a hanger to prevent the garment from creasing or taking on difficult-to-remove shapes.
5) When a garment dries after accidentally getting wet, the leather may appear dry or stiff. To restore its original condition, use the Dainese Protection & Cleaning Kit, available at any Dainese dealer. The kit contains two products: the first deeply cleanses the leather, while the second keeps it soft and supple, nourishing and hydrating it. The kit can also be used for regular dry cleaning and care. Remember to be very careful with garments made of different materials. In this case, always follow the instructions on the garment's label.

ATTENTION:
Please note that the “Regenerate your Dainese leather garment” service applies exclusively to leather garments, such as jackets, trousers, and leather suits (two-piece or professional).
Dainese does not offer any other specific service for cleaning leather garments.
Furthermore, Dainese does not offer any type of cleaning service for fabric garments.
  • Items made from multiple materials (e.g., fabrics, suede, chamois, etc.) are excluded.
** For items damaged in multiple areas and requiring partial or complete repair, a quote will be prepared based on the extent of the damage. (Dainese assessment.)
Due to the complexity of their structure, it is not possible to restore the knee seams on the most recent models of leather suits.
Dainese reserves the right to reject, or return unreconditioned, leather garments in "critical" condition. This applies in particular to blood stains or residual dirt (mud and/or similar) that has penetrated deeply into the leather. This applies especially to leather garments that require special treatment (e.g., vintage leather garments). Dainese will decide whether an item is considered "critical" or not.
Also remember that the results of the service depend on the condition in which the items are received, their wear and tear, and the care they have received over time.
How can I wash garments made of GORE-TEX® and D-Dry® fabric?
As with leather, it's important not to allow dirt to accumulate on fabric garments, as over time it could penetrate the fabric's weave and become very difficult to remove. Dainese garments made of fabric or with waterproof and breathable membranes such as D-Dry® or GORE-TEX® should be washed in warm water (max. 30°C) with neutral soap without fabric softener, rather than with detergents containing solvents and abrasives, unless otherwise indicated on the garment's label. When washing, be sure to treat the outer fabric very gently, as excessive rubbing can damage the fibers. It's best to remove padding and protectors, and close zippers and Velcro fasteners (this prevents them from abrading the fabric or internal mesh). Furthermore, it's important to remember to dry the garment in a dry place, away from direct light and heat sources. Remember to pay particular attention to garments made of different materials. In this case, always follow the instructions on the garment's label: the indications must be strictly observed. All technical fabrics, including stretch versions, must always be treated with extreme care. High-tech fibers with mechanical properties in particular must be treated with neutral detergents without fabric softeners. Fabric softeners can significantly weaken waterproof and oil-resistant surface treatments and even damage resin coatings and multifunctional polyurethane and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE – Teflon) membranes typically applied to the back of the fabric.
How do I wash my gloves?
It's best not to wash leather gloves, avoiding the buildup of dirt over time and using the Dainese Cleaning and Protection Kit to keep them soft and clean. If fabric gloves, made of GORE-TEX® and D-Dry®, require a more thorough cleaning, Dainese recommends gently washing them in warm water (max. 40°C) with a neutral, non-abrasive soap without fabric softener. Then dry them in a cool, dry place, away from direct light and heat sources, hanging them by the cuffs with the fingers facing down. That said, always follow the instructions on the garment's label. In particular, high-tech fibers with mechanical properties must be treated with neutral detergents without fabric softener. How should I clean my boots?
To clean your Dainese boots, follow a few simple rules:
1) Do not scrub your boots with brushes, abrasive materials or creams.
2) To remove external dirt, use a soft, damp cloth to gently rub the surface.
3) Dry the boots away from heat sources and direct light, in a well-ventilated place.
4) When boots dry after accidentally getting wet, the leather may feel dry or stiff. To restore its original condition, use the Dainese "Protection and Cleaning Kit," available at any Dainese dealer. The kit contains two products: the first deeply cleanses the leather, while the second nourishes it, keeping it soft and supple. The kit can also be used for regular dry cleaning and care of boots.
How should I clean a garment made of mixed fabrics?
It is essential to follow the instructions on the garment label.
How can I clean a vintage garment?
It is essential to follow the instructions on the garment's label. Vintage products are made from select, high-quality Italian leather. These items feature a pull-up finish based on oils and waxes, specifically created to give the garment a worn look, but also a rugged look that improves with age. This unique finish creates the characteristic Vintage effect, perfect for the "On the Road" style concept of this clothing line. It is best to prevent dirt from accumulating over time. To remove dirt, use the special cleaning and protection kit provided for this product line (carefully follow the application method using a soft cloth and gently rubbing the surface with light, circular motions, without focusing too much on the stain). Dry away from direct light and heat sources.
IF YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED WITH THE RESULT, IT IS BEST TO CONTACT A SPECIALIZED LEATHER CLEANER.
How can I remove oil and insect stains?
These stains should be removed as soon as possible: the longer they remain, the more difficult they will be to remove. To clean insect stains, simply wipe them away with a soft, damp cloth and neutral soap. It's best to promptly remove any organic stains left by insects (e.g., midges, mosquitoes, etc.), as the fluids they contain are quite aggressive on the skin. Any oil or grease should be washed off immediately with a soft, damp cloth, wiping with gentle, circular motions, avoiding excessive rubbing of the stained area. Dry the garment away from heat sources and in a well-ventilated area; it's best to use a hanger to prevent the garment from wrinkling or forming difficult-to-remove shapes.

CUSTOMIZATION OF LEATHER GARMENTS
Is it possible to make changes/alterations to standard items?
We generally discourage modifications to standard garments, as they risk compromising the safety and comfort features that are the fundamental requirements of all Dainese products. Furthermore, significant modifications to a garment can cost as much, if not more, than the garment itself.
Can Dainese leather garments be customized?
Yes, several models in the current collection can be customized in terms of design and/or comfort. Regarding aesthetics, you can choose color combinations and lettering.
When it comes to comfort, Dainese now offers a custom-made service that allows you to have perfectly fitting leather garments, just like those worn by World Championship riders. The service is available at top Dainese retailers (you can find a list in the Store Locator section of the Dainese website, Custom Works line), where specially trained staff will take all the necessary measurements to ensure your garments fit perfectly.
The main areas that can be modified are: neck, chest, biceps, forearms, wrists, waist, hips, thighs, knees, calves and ankles.
You can find a list of customizable models and color combinations available at authorized Dainese dealers.
Where is the measuring service for leather garments provided?
Retailers who offer the measuring service have the words "Custom Works" next to their store name in the Store Locator section of the website.
Alternatively, several Dainese dealers host “Custom Works” events throughout the year, where specially trained personnel from our R&D department are available to take customer measurements.
How much do personalized or made-to-measure items cost?
There are four levels of customization based on the needs of different fits and/or color changes. Contact your local Dainese dealer to find out the price for the customization you have in mind.
How long does it take to make custom or bespoke items?
Delivery of custom or made-to-measure items generally takes approximately 6/7 weeks once the final sketch has been approved and measurements confirmed.
